Additionally, there are manufacturer specific entries for Acura, Honda, Aspire, Escort, Tracer, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Colt, Summit, Ford, Geo, GM, Hyundai, Infiniti, Nissan, Isuzu, Jaguar, KIA, Land Rover, Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Volkswagen and Volvo. Total manufacturer specific entries are 2,400+.

Identifying which interface to use:

There are three languages for OBD II

 ISO 9141 (typically Chrysler & European)
- The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 4, 5, 7, 15, and 16. (pins 16, 5, 15 and 7 are used by the OBD II interface)

 PWM J1850 41.6Kb/s (typically Ford)
- The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, 10, and 16. (pins 16, 5, 2 and 10 are used by the OBD II interface)

 VPW J1850 10.4Kb/s (typically GM & Chrysler)
- The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, and 16, but not 10. (pins 16, 5 and 2 are used by the OBD II interface)

The automobile manufacturers are required to use any of the three protocols.

Note: There are a few exceptions for GM such as Saturn LS 3.0L, Saturn VUE 3.0L, Saturn VUE 3.5L, Saturn ION, Cadillac Catera, Cadillac CTS, GEO Metro, GEO Prism, GEO Tracker, Pontaic Vibe, Saab 9-3 and Kia Sorento. These models use a different protocol than the normal VPW.
